What is Blackhole?

Blackhole is a secure file hosting and transfer system that was created in response to known security breaches on file hosting services like Dropbox.

Blackhole leverages blockchain distributed ledger technology so that files are secure and immutable. Blackhole compresses the uploaded file, then encrypts it, and then stores it in fragments across the blockchain for extreme security, using industry-standard AES CBC (Advanced Encryption Standard Cypher Block Chaining) end-to-end encryption.

When a file is uploaded, clients are given a password which is actually a 256-bit key. This key may be given out to colleagues who want to share the file. Uploads are fast due to the data compression, but Blackhole users state they enjoy the fact that they can begin downloads even before the file is fully uploaded. Blackhole is driven by open-source code available for review on GitHub, which further increases security.

Blackhole is free for small files, with charges for larger files.
